Our Philosophy

The Montessori Method, developed by Dr. Maria Montessori, is a child-centered educational approach based on scientific observations of children from birth to adulthood. Dr. Montessori’s Method has been time tested, with over 100 years of success in diverse cultures throughout the world.

Multiage Group
Multi-Age groupings allow for younger children to learn from older peers and for older peers to learn tolerance. The Montessori classroom is reflective of a typical household.

Child-Directed Work
Children select work that meets an intrinsic need as teachers facilitate and direct students to materials to move them along in their development. This is done through the use of classic Montessori materials and teacher designed materials.

Montessori Curriculum
A hallmark of Montessori education is its hands-on approach to learning and the use of scientifically designed didactic materials. Beautifully crafted and begging to be touched, Montessori’s distinctive learning materials each teach a single skill or concept and include a built-in mechanism (“control of error”) for providing the student with a way of assessing progress and correcting mistakes, independent of the teacher. The concrete materials provide passages to abstraction and introduce concepts that become increasingly complex.

Uninterrupted Work Periods
It is recommended that children experience two – three hours of uninterrupted work.  This allows for children to be engaged in their work fully and to work at their own pace..

Montessori Trained Teachers
Trained Montessori teacher go through a rigorous training program consisting of theory and practice ranging between one – two years. With this as the backdrop, trained eyes observe children gaining insight into their behavior being informed by child development and the tenets of the Montessori philosophy.
